Islay & Jura Community Enterprises

£16,193 towards the cost of refurbishing a leisure centre which focusses on providing facilities for disadvantaged and deprived members of the two Hebridean islands.

Islay & Jura Community Enterprises, founded 1989, is a social enterprise company which runs the Mactaggart Community Leisure Centre, created from an old whisky bond.

A capital grant from Trusthouse Charitable Foundation supported the full refurbishment of the centre, which included refurbishments to the main swimming pool, changing and toilet areas, energy saving technology, new internal windows and flooring, and redecoration throughout the building. The centre is now able to accommodate the heavy footfall of users, more than 3,000 in the last year.
