Hackney Pirates

£4,000 towards the cost of fitting out a permanent venue for a supplementary school for children aged 9-12 in Hackney.

With the support of the Trusthouse Charitable Foundation, Hackney Pirates refitted their new premises to create an unconventional learning environment for young people in Hackney. The grant from Trusthouse was used for the construction of the learning space (which has been designed to resemble an underwater cave) and specialist desks, ideal for one-to-one learning. The building is now being used on a daily basis for after-school learning sessions.

The new space has received very positive feedback from project participants, with one child stating, “I think it’s amazing because it’s decorated by us.”
